I fucking love Peter in 'Thick of It'. I don't think anyone could insult better than him.

I just wanted to say to you by way of introductory remarks. In my quest to try and make you understand the level of my unhappiness, I'm likely to use, what we would call, "violent sexual imagery." And I just wanted to check that neither of you would be terribly offended by that

I find this insanely attractive/appealing. Idk what it is. Like a bro crush? Like butterflies but platonic. Like seeing him my brain is just screaming "I want to be around him. I want to be him."

83

u/SayceGards Mar 25 '23

Might just be a regular crush bro

33

u/pointlessly_pedantic Mar 25 '23

Nah I don't wanna kiss or fuck or date them when I have this. I think not everyone experiences this but I've had it with women too. It's like the rush of "god they're cool/whatever, I want to get to know them" but the mental images that come up when you introspect are all strictly platonic. It definitely feels distinct from a regular crush too.

Best I can explain it is the early stages of hitting it off with someone who would become your best friend, but you're not sure at the time if it will develop into anything more than "oh they're cool, we should hang" or a friendly acquaintance. The platonic crush is the feeling that comes before falling in friend(ship) lol

27

u/thedudefromsweden Mar 25 '23

I'm with you. Some people are just very attractive, in a non sexual way. People you just want to be with.

He could have a career in comedy easy. Or a comedian-musician like Flight of the Conchords.

51

u/liamnesss Mar 25 '23

Given how a his path to getting famous and successful had a lot to do with what he was doing on social media, particularly the videos, you could say he is a professsional comedian already. Maybe it's not his job to be funny but it has certainly made him a fair bit of money.

When he was on Graham Norton along with that guy from 50 Shades... he said something like:

"It's weird seeing you here in person and with my dick not in my hand"

185

u/imissbrendanfraser Mar 25 '23

‘It’s weird seeing you without a whip in your hand, and me without my cock in mine’

I think it was on Graham Norton's show that even Jim Carrey sort of tried to assert his 'dominance' over Capaldi, being upstaged by a singer and end up seemingly giving props to Capaldi for being effortlessly funny, well at least that's how I interpret the way Carrey was looking at Capaldi like in awe or something lol.

90

u/AttentionFantastic76 Mar 25 '23

Great watch at the Graham Norton show! https://youtu.be/YzlmdM11Hws

68

u/JustKindaHappenedxx Mar 25 '23

I loved this. I had no idea how naturally hilarious he is. Also funny that you could see Jim Carrey trying to jump in with jokes and being disappointed that they were falling rather flat compared to Lewis.

34

u/Empirion Mar 25 '23

I too had no idea he was so funny.

He should team up with James Blunt and do comedy.

26

u/_roaster_ Mar 25 '23

Apparently vitamin c is another name for coke, so when Carrey sang that song he was saying he thought Capaldi was on coke.

So someone said the last time it was posted anyway. Think this was before Capaldi got his tourrette's diagnosis

13

u/welcome-in_jaaAAMmm Mar 26 '23

Yeah Lewis gives another interview with Jonathan Ross IIRC where he says that people were mistaking his Tourettes for him being on coke

He's also very clearly a brilliant kid, too. He is most certainly not just his handicap.

173

u/decayingorgancmatter Mar 25 '23

I seriously just want to watch him talk forever.

136

u/theteedo Mar 25 '23

Right! I was like who is this charming, awkward, Scottish lad. Funny af and very quick witted. I live when famous people have a bit of humility. Good stuff, I’ll have to check out his music.

87

u/siege-eh-b Mar 25 '23

You’ve definitely already heard his stuff and when you put the face to the tune you’re gonna be in for a shock like most the first time haha.

37

u/--------rook Mar 25 '23

I listened to some of his songs before he got worldwide famous but I had no idea what he looked like. When his face started popping up along with the name Lewis Capaldi it took me a while to register that that was, you know, /that/ Lewis Capaldi.

70

u/mykeuk Mar 25 '23

I remember hearing 'Someone You Loved' on the radio, and had thi vision of some rough, chiselled boyband type singing it (you know the look... that look) so when I found out what he looked like I was so, so surprised.

But I absolutely love Lewis. It is a wish of mine to meet and sing with the guy.

u/honest-miss Mar 25 '23

It 100% reads as a coping mechanism to me. He just looks very anxious and like he's doing his best up there.

Granted I could be projecting, since that's what I do to cope with social environments. I can't speak for him, but it feels really nice to make people laugh when you're being dunked in social anxiety. It adds a teensy sprinkle of good feelings to a pool of stress; feels good to get even that smidge of relief. Plus there's that part of the brain that's like a terrified antelope "IF THEY LIKE ME THEY WON'T EAT ME."

90

u/PM_me_your_LEGO_ Mar 25 '23

"IF THEY LIKE ME THEY WON'T EAT ME."

Omg this is exactly what it's like. Wow. Thank you for enlightening my 35yr old brain.

24

u/natFromBobsBurgers Mar 25 '23

Sprinkle in a little "IM ABOUT TO BE EATEN. AH WELL FUCK IT. MAY AS WELL HAVE A SILLY TIME." and you've got me.

22

u/Frontpage_Cleanup Mar 25 '23

There's a podcast interview with him, I think it's 'diary of a CEO', where he very openly explains his issues with anxiety and self esteem. He has panic attacks and was saying how when he walks into a room he has this unreasonable assumption that everyone hates him. Which confused him a bit because he also said he didn't hate himself, he thought he was a pretty good guy (which he is).

I'd only ever heard his songs on the radio before and the podcast really humanised him. People who talk that openly about their issues have a lot of respect from me

15

u/mightylordredbeard Mar 25 '23

Imposter syndrome. I’ve struggled with this my entire life despite being surrounded by people who love and adore me. It’s caused me to self destruct every single relationship I’ve ever had. It’s probably why I’m so drawn to this dude and absolutely love him to death.. though he’d never believe it.

9

u/samtonyg Mar 25 '23

Honestly, he’s just a standard lad from the west of Scotland. I know so many people just like him with the same kind of humour. He’s an amazing representative for us and it’s so refreshing for people to see a side of Scotland that has reach global recognition that isn’t either a “villain” or a kilt-wearing, dumb/aggressive stereotype.

14

u/Koquillon Mar 25 '23

He's been very open about having it which I think has been really good for improving awareness of what Tourettes is really like (and not being just a punchline about us swearing a lot).

I'm not particularly into his music but as someone around the same age who also was also diagnosed with TS as an adult I'm very happy to see him so successful and open about the condition.

9

u/am0x Mar 25 '23

That and just being happy where he is. Too many people keep wanting more, but some few realize they lucked out and are just happy they made it to where they are at all. If it all ended tomorrow, he would be happy it happened rather than being sad it is over unlike most people.

12

u/Chicken_Bake Mar 25 '23

Yeah absolutely. Not saying it's not a fantastic trait to have and he seems very comfortable with himself, but for some people it definitely at least starts as a form of self defence.

10

u/dacooljamaican Mar 25 '23

In my experience most adults personalities are built around mechanisms for self defense they've created through experience.

38

u/PsychologicalLeg9302 Mar 25 '23

TIL I must have Tourette’s, from the way I cope with public speaking.

People who don't take themselves seriously are the best. They live to enrich the lives of others, and I can't think of any greater purpose.

49

u/CruxOfTheIssue Mar 25 '23

You should watch British panel shows. The people on the show are hilariously brutal towards each other in ways you don't see in American TV and they're all good sports about it.

14

u/1998f1504x4 Mar 25 '23

ways you don't see in American

Their language is harsher but sounds softer. It would be unpleasant to watch Americans trash each other in "american" english, I think.

I have no idea who he is but he’s funny AF

98

u/Boobcopter Mar 25 '23

He's a pretty popular musician, most people just don't know how he looks. His most famous song is Someone you loved.

u/kingfart1337 Mar 25 '23 edited Mar 25 '23

I was trying to understand why some people hate it. Idk, the lyrics sound pretty standard for a love song, not even corny. Great voice too.

I guess it’s just one of those “it got mainstream, let’s hate it” kinda of things?

20

u/indorock Mar 25 '23

For me it's the voice, actually. He's got that "strained just about to break" thing when he hits those high notes, something Ed Sheeran does too but Lewis has it a lot stronger. Although I'm gotten used to it by now and doesn't bother me as much. For sure I think he's an amazing person and hopes he keeps doing his thing even if it's not my cup of tea.

9

u/I_LICK_PINK_TO_STINK Mar 25 '23

I've not really heard either of these two dudes. However, I think I know the "about to break" sound you're talking about and I actually kinda like that. Adds a kind of emphasis that makes you feel it more. Gives the impression is genuine, not practiced, even if it was.

It just sounds like a very mainstream pop song à la Ed Sheeran and some people just hate that

u/Marrouge Mar 25 '23

Personally I like the song but it got overplayed to death on the radio and it's not one of those songs that's really replayable so it got tiring after a while for me

5

u/am0x Mar 25 '23

It’s not bad. Had no idea it was the same person until I watched the video, but I know the song.

I don’t hate the song, for me it is forgettable with other mainstream music. It sounds like all the other pop stuff and it’s a lot of essentially yelling instead of singing notes, but that is super popular now.

It’s not terrible, it’s just normal for a pop song in my book and pop isn’t my cup. But the dudes personality is amazing.

I didn’t think I knew who he was either but I looked him up and realized I have. There’s a good chance you’ve heard “someone you loved” by him, it was all over the radio near me and has 2.7 Billion listens on Spotify

When you a bard..but you pump all stats in charisma.

149

u/itsaccrualworld Mar 25 '23

That’s the standard build for most bards though?

70

u/EbayNachos Mar 25 '23 edited Mar 25 '23

Yea not too many uncharismatic bards running around. That would be depressing

8

u/Learned_Response Mar 25 '23

Maybe unrelated but in D&D can you pick a class after you roll? Seems like that would make more sense

12

u/akrostixdub Mar 25 '23

Would depend on your DM but that actually sounds like a fun idea if you didn't have any ideas for a character, just let the rolls determine it

The smartness and quickness to turn blessed into “blessed and stressed and underdressed” regarding his casual wear was brilliant. The way a mind can think to make such a clever quip about one’s state of wear and rhyme it to what the host said, on the spot, and with timing to make it doubly as funny is the mark of a truly clever comedic person. Obviously not the funniest but if the interview, but so damn smart.

This dude needs to he protected at all costs. I always liked his music but knew nothing about him. After seeing interviews and even his music videos. He just seems like an awesome fun dude.

Another gem, https://youtu.be/YzlmdM11Hws

u/HezFez238 Mar 25 '23

How can he just totally be the complete package? If I was his mom, I’d be so proud of this kid!

I discovered him not through his music but oddly enough ticket prices. The red hot chilli peppers are coming to town and I dug unlimited love enough to think to myself "that might be an alright time". Go to buy tickets and the cheapest ones were 400 dollars plus all the ticket master fees. Out of curiosity I started looking up ticket prices for people playing at the same place as the Peppers and Lewis Capaldi came up. I had never heard any of his music before but I assumed he was big cause of the size of the venue he was playing. So I decided to see how expensive his seats were and the very last row was 25 bucks and the very front was 200 (resale). RHCHPs cheapest 400 vs Lewis Capaldi's cheapest 25. He's at 32 million followers on spotify vs their 27 million so its not like he's not popular. This alone made me pay attention to him and every time I see stuff like this I like him even more. Seem like a great person! TLDR; He seems great and doesn't rip off his fans

How the hell did this hilarious man turn around and also perform one of the saddest, most emotional songs I’ve ever heard??

44

u/Awfy Mar 25 '23

He has insane anxiety troubles and tourettes. He does extremely well to hide it in interviews by being this bubbly, funny guy but what goes on behind the scenes is so sad at times.

If Robbie Coltrane and Paul McCartney had managed to have a child, he would look exactly like Lewis Capaldi.

Also, as someone originally from Glasgow (Easterhouse) his accent is tamed so you can understand him!

Very much look forward to his Netflix show next week

That's what I love about my country.. we don't take ourselves too seriously. Lewis is a great guy and if he stopped singing then he can definitely break through into stand up comedy!! 😂😂

7

u/braekbad Mar 25 '23

i thought paddy had lost it.

5

u/Legitimate-Space8847 Mar 25 '23

I love how the other co-host is supportive and tries to keep him in line to promote himself.

“I’ve seen you live, and it looks like you are having fun”

“But that is 10 out of 10”. Bless his kind soul

5

u/Stephen501 Mar 25 '23

Funny seeing people in here having no idea who he is. I’m in Glasgow and I don’t think there’s a soul living here who hasn’t heard of him.

4

u/BennySkateboard Mar 25 '23

I don’t think I’ve ever knowingly listened to his music but he’s an absolute legend. Love it every time I’ve seen him in interview. I look forward to him getting one of those odd travel shows or something of the like.

4

u/20above Mar 25 '23

It took me a few years to realize he was a singer. First time I had seen him in a video I thought he was a comedian bc of all the jokes. Dude’s got a back up career.

5

u/DryChanges Mar 25 '23

Dermot really having to brace himself at the start there

3

u/kindquail502 Mar 25 '23

I have never heard him sing a single note but after watching this I am immediately a big fan.
