u/Successful-Debt5854 Mar 25 '23
Why on earth WOULDN'T they? Sex is normal and natural. Only religion says it is not. Are you trying to tell us that you do NOTHING for pleasure? No beers on a Saturday night? No cigarettes? No masturbation? You have never had sex just for sex?
17
u/Da_Boom Mar 26 '23
Funny thing is, I don't actually recall any area in the bible where masturbation as something not allowed.
What people seem to point to is that passage in Matthew 5:27-28 where it states that even perving on people in order to lust is commuting adultery in your heart (to me that makes no sense though, as adultery today indicates you are already in a relationship, but context matters and idk how what the context of that passage really was, as I have no idea of what the common thought on sex and relationships were at the time).
Note: it doesn't mention masturbation, and doesn't explicitly forbid it at all... Just like it doesn't forbid abortion.
And smoking? Bruh this was the middle east, that's just a thing modern "Christians" threw in.
People love to manipulate the scriptures and reinterpret it for their own purposes and gain, and it fucking sucks. I see it all the time.
The bible is full of things that are open for interpretation, or the translation leaves it open for it. Which causes all these problems, but you have to remember god, and Jesus didn't write these scriptures... People did. And people are flawed - hell that's kinda half the point of the bible. God is perfect and we aren't and never will be.
There are even passages in there where Jesus is like "don't tell anyone about this" but did they listen? No, otherwise it wouldn't have been written in the bible!
Anyway.. my rant is over. If I made mistakes, feel free to point them out. I'm sure I did, after all, there are people more qualified than me for interpretation of the scriptures (there's always someone better)

Actually there’s a story in Gen where a dude pulls out and nuts on the ground rather than impregnating his brother’s widow. God took offense in the story. That’s used a lot to justify prohibitions of masterbation too.
Don’t shoot the messenger.
3
u/Eps1lxn Mar 26 '23
Well in Genesis 38 God did kill a man for "spilling his seed on the ground" instead of getting a woman pregnant so there is an one testament case to be made against not just masturbation but pulling out and condoms

Copying a post that keeps being relevant- Well yeah. Morality and Legality aren't things you do, they're things you are. For conservatives, people are born into strict hierarchies than cannot and must not change. Immigrants, queers, Antifa, atheists, whatever category you want, are all just types of people. Something you do, actions you take, they don't matter. They don't change inborn characteristics for conservatives.
It's a completely different way of interpreting reality than the rest of us.
For you and me, and MOST people, doing good actions makes you good and doing evil makes you evil. That's not how these people operate though, it's not how their brains interpret the world.
For them, actions have no moral quantity; people do. People are inherently good or inherently evil, their actions have no bearing on that whatsoever.
When you start seeing it that way, EVERYthing they do makes more sense. The neighbors kid who raped a drunk girl? He's a "good kid"! He just made some mistakes! Pastor raping kids? He's "good", he just was tempted by the devil!
In their mind, they are GOOD™, their friends and family are GOOD™, their religion is GOOD™. Nothing can change those qualities, as they are inborn facts of the universe. You? You are not GOOD™. You never were and you never can be. There's no action that anyone does to change whether they are GOOD™ or not.
See, start to apply this to their whole framework, and it really makes sense. You ever notice how much we point out their hypocrisy, they don't seem to care? There is no hypocrisy. Hypocrisy doesn't exist for them, how could it? To be a hypocrite you have to say you believe one thing but then do actions that are the other. That literally cannot happen if actions have no bearing on morality.
No, in fact, hypocrisy is actually a sign of strength, it's power. The GOOD™ are powerful for their ability to do something that pisses off their enemies. Of COURSE their own abortion was moral. Of course it was right for them, and it will never be right for you. That's how ALL morality works for you.
And it's why we're all being stupid by trying to shame them, or to point out their contradictions, or try to convince them that other people's actions should be compared to their own.
THEY. DON'T. CARE. They cannot think the same way, whether through choice or some sort of mental illness or just sheer shittiness.
15
u/TheFatJesus Mar 25 '23
Nobody ever introduced them to the rule of universality. Then again, that would require some self-awareness.
9
u/ActionScripter9109 Mar 25 '23
It probably sounds simple and obvious to someone who didn't grow up in the culture/propaganda, but one of the first revelations that led to my eventual deconversion and leftward shift was the fact that everyone is pretty similar on the inside. On average, we all react to situations in the same ways; we all have the same priorities; and we all have the same capacity for good or evil.
Coming from a background where I was convinced that the Christian right was built different, with unique connection to goodness and undergoing unique unjust persecution, this information was earth-shattering. I went to college and met people of different worldviews, and I suddenly started to see the same patterns in their lives that I'd assumed were special to me and my group. The impression that other people were just ignorant "others" melted away, and I started to actually grasp the ways in which my culture was just a small twist on the universal human experience.
There were a bunch of other steps after that before I renounced it all, but understanding this - that everyone else was fully as human and as special as me and mine - was a big one.

I told my kids since they were old enough to understand: if someone tells you they are a good person, run the other way. A truly good person knows life is full of hard choices, injustice and they can mess up in so many ways without even trying. "Good" people are either stupid or evil.

Because the people want sex toys, Lara
74
u/Ironikka Mar 25 '23
Those ‘sex toys’ can be used to improve a woman’s health. They stretch out the vaginal opening. A rollicking orgasm using my female-sexual-health-maintenance-dildos helps with pelvic floor strengthening. Dildos are not a bad thing.
71
u/caseypatrickdriscoll Mar 25 '23
Also, last time I checked this is America, and no other explanation is needed.
37
u/simonmagus616 Mar 25 '23
Right??? The only justification you need to buy a sex toy is “I’m an adult and I want one”
23
21
u/Sea-Value-0 Mar 26 '23
Which is also sad because teenagers (14+) also should be able to buy them. That makes adults uncomfortable but FFS I put myself through all kinds of painful hell trying out and using household objects as a teen (TMI). As long as they're safely using them for themselves and no adult or nonconsensual party is involved, what's the big deal? America can be a rather pathetic puritan place to grow up.

It would be nice if there wasn't a double standard around men buying sex toys. We get judged pretty heavily for having them for some reason. It's as if amazing orgasms are reserved for only women or something.
4
u/simonmagus616 Mar 26 '23
I agree, fwiw. I don’t use many sex toys myself (or at least, er, on myself), but I don’t see any reason why there should be a stigma against men for using sex toys.
4
u/screechypete Mar 26 '23
When people give me shit about it I just call out the hypocrisy about what's being said if it's a girl, and when it's a boy that just means they've never tried it. I also make sure to let them know that it doesn't make someone any less of a man to have the best orgasm you've ever had. End of the day though, enjoying myself and enhancing the experience with my partners is much more important to me than other people's opinions.

they are "prostate massagers" used to "relax the pelvic floor." Nothing gay or sex or toy about them! Load up boys! FSA approved!

u/Thraell Mar 25 '23
You can get pelvic floor trainers for dudes, actually. They involve electric stimulation of the muscles, and yes you stick them up your butt. They're usually marketed with a lot of reassurance that it's a medical product. Some people do of course use it for other purposes (electroplay) but the e-stim pelvic trainers do work wonders for pelvic floor toning which can be of help for things like erectile dysfunction. (There are also weighted butt plugs available for a different method of pelvic floor exercise).
Though, the male toy I spotted in the OP was a stroker, which you shouldn't really be using to stimulate your prostate.

The problem is when people are presented with ideas that challenge their own, they react with first fear, then rejection. It’s the most closed minded individuals who harbor hatred for ideas that are alien to them.
On the flip side, becoming more tolerant requires having an open mind, open to new ideas and the idea that change is okay. It is exactly why (in general) the more educated someone becomes, the further left they lean.
Ever since growing up, moving out, and graduating, I learned that media, traditional and social, will take a normal (spelled “non-“)issue and focus only on the extreme ends of the spectrum. In return, the image thats being shared with people is polarized; black and white; conservative or liberal, R or D. The fact is, nearly everything (at least the things that happen in your own life) is somewhere in the grey area in between.

I don't think Walmart sells .223 or 7.62/39 ammo, either, as those are the common "assault rifle" calibers. Despite that bolt-action hunting/target/varmint rifles in .223 are fairly common.

In some parts of the US, condoms and lubricant is locked behind a case labeled "family planning" and you have to get an employee to retrieve the items for you, which they will hold at the cashiers, you can't even have them in your cart. Imagine a teenager wanted to have safe sex but being too intimidated to buy condoms.

u/selfdestruction9000 Mar 25 '23
They’re not locked up to restrict access though, they’re locked because they are some of the most shoplifted items, in no small part because people are too embarrassed to be seen buying or even walking around with them.

Once stopped in at an unfamiliar Walmart to grab a little 3-pack before a date night with my gf. It took almost 20 minutes of pressing the help button, waiting, repeating, finding an associate, her calling in another associate who had to retrieve the key, and unlocking the case for a 3-PACK OF CONDOMS.
I'm fairly comfortable with sexuality and know my responsibility but I still ended up a bit embarrassed. How many kids must think that's normal and just avoid buying condoms altogether??

u/MountainTurkey Mar 25 '23
They keep them locked up because people are embarrassed to check out with them and just steal them instead.

What they should do is have them in a vending machine, maybe near the pharmacy or somewhere "private."
Maybe put other items in there too, like ibuprofen and bandages. I wonder if trojan, durex etc. would actually make more money that way because people would be more likely to purchase them.

They have no place in adult conversations, yet they consider themselves the adults in the room, I fucking hate them.

Sex is so taboo in the US. I'm glad they sell these openly. Sex shouldn't be something shameful.

Also, using sex toys shouldn't be shameful. It's fun, and for lots of people it's the only way to have a good wank and that's fine.

They're on the top shelf, out of reach of children. It's fine. Lord.

"But the lube is next to childrens toothbrushes... THINK OF THE CHILDREN"
And what child is gonna know what "intense pleasure is", probably gonna think it's a very good juice or something.

Some people are so offended by sex or nudity but normalize or even glorify violence.

Didn’t they stop selling guns? Either way they don’t have drills and hide under desks because someone brought a dildo to school.

I backed us up a couple aisles a couple weeks ago to verify that yes, I did indeed see a butt plug, that was humongous, on the shelves in Wal-Mart.

Welcome to every single post that gets upvoted to the top of this subreddit. Never clever, almost never even a comeback, but always a hamfisted political slant.

u/PillowTalk420 Mar 25 '23

Guns are great they allow you to have power over people through the threat of violence and even death. Sex toys are evil they let people I don’t know enjoy themselves in ways I don’t approve of. We are supposed to all be on the same path cogs getting ground down and crushed in gods glorious machine praise be!

Why is walmart selling sex toys? Is it because conservative men like Ben Shapiro can't get their wives wet?
