If only they provided help in some way, calling it "formatting help" and put it as a mini link popup for people to use. It would be even better if they put this link at the bottom of the reply text box.
But I guess we can all dream.

Right? The original poem being socialist aside, there’s actually a real lesson from it that you could apply to a lot of groups (not just socialists).
But applying to any individual is largely dumb because most individuals aren’t going to have the ability to help you. But Trump, Bannon, Lindell…there’s a 0% chance they’d give a single shit if you were drowning right in front of them and they were all holding floats.

And she worked for Infowars, but got fired after she was arrested on charges of theft and assault.
10
u/sachs1 Sep 14 '22
She wasn't fired for that however. She was fired because she produced a "documentary" called shadowgate right around that time. In it they accused Roger stone of working with the globalists. I don't remember the specifics, but it was the stone slander that really pissed Jones off.

2
u/KeinFussbreit Sep 14 '22
Thank you, the wiki only says that Jones fired her after the arrest.
3
u/sachs1 Sep 14 '22
That isn't wrong, but it doesn't include the deep lore. Also, to pass some of the curse along to you, one of her characters was called "rainbow snatch" and it is peak comedy. I swear she thinks she's funny.

u/fungi_at_parties Sep 14 '22 edited Sep 14 '22 •

It was a poem about fascism. The poem even mentions going after communists/socialists. The Nazis called themselves socialists but…. They actually hated them. They were fighting against far right labels and wanted to get working class people on board.
So I suppose the irony is that this is like saying, “First they came for Hitler” and it really comes off as completely absurd.

I also find it funny that those who usually post versions of this will ALWAYS say that socialism, communism and Fascism are the same thing.
"At first they came for the socialists and since they were socialists, they wiped themselves out"
3
u/-eumaeus- Sep 15 '22
We have the same here in the UK buddy. "Nazi's were socialists, it was in their name" and "socialists are all commies"
In truth, I'm a Liberal (that's kind of just to the left of the US Democrats), with socialist preferences, but at the end of the day, I have little care for someone's political label. Instead, it's their words and actions that matter. Call yourself a Christian, then bloody act like one! Stop imposing your beliefs and ideals on everyone else, just let people be who they are and who they will grow to be.
Have a super day.

u/Rusty-Crowe Sep 15 '22

Oh my god the criminal complaint against her
According to the criminal complaint, which Heavy obtained from the county prosecutor, McCarron [the mother] had been living at the Portage County home for about a month at the time of the confrontation. She moved in [with Weaver] after the coronavirus pandemic forced her employer in California to shut down. The report states that on April 25, McCarron was texting with a religious leader “about her daughter being mean.” McCarron accused Weaver of calling her names. Deputies said they confirmed McCarron had sent a text message to her Bishop 26 minutes before dialing 911.
In a separate interview with responding deputies, Weaver denied her mother’s allegations. She claimed McCarron had lost her phone two days earlier and was upset about it. Weaver described her mother as “mentally ill and not reliable.” Weaver claimed her mother had threatened the rest of the family with a knife, put it away, and then ran outside the house yelling about calling the police. Weaver told deputies they had considered calling 911 themselves but ultimately decided against it.
Trying to gaslight your own mom. The party of family values.

A ‘reasonably defined’ criminal. In various nation-states it’s criminal to be gay or a certain religion. In this case, the laws broken were incredibly easy and reasonable to not break.

u/Douchie_McBaggus Sep 14 '22
The original post is a terrible parody of a poem written by a man, Martin Niemoller, who was protesting against Nazism.
Socialists, trade unionists, and Jews were examples of persecuted groups that were made illegal, thus becoming criminals in the eyes of Nazi Germany.
Is it reasonable to call any one of those groups criminals? No.
Is it reasonable to call a person who steals and conceals classified documents a criminal? Yes.

Every single bit of rhetoric the right uses today comes from the left. They are the least creative people in the country. But what makes it worse is that they use the rhetoric incorrectly every single time.
The "rent free" line is supposed to apply to people who don't matter anymore. Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama lived rent free in their heads because they weren't doing anything at that point. trump is not living rent free in heads because he has to do stupid shit to take up space in there. If he'd fuck off and stop doing shit that affects the public, nobody on the left would be talking about him.

Then they came for brown people in countries I didn’t live in or care about, and I said nothing, because I wanted cheap gas and revenge for 9/11.
Then they came for a bunch of rich assholes who tried to overturn an election they lost, and NOW I care about the precedent this sets.

Then they came for rapists, but I did not speak out, for I was not a rapist.
Then they came for me, because I broke into a Best Buy and stole a TV, and nobody would speak out for me.
Do they not realize that the poem was written about rounding up classes of people who committed no crime? Personalizing it to an explicit defense of crime is absurd.
You could play with the order and make murder last, and claim persecution for being a serial killer.
I don't think that was what was intended.
Today's poem would have "immigrants", "LGBTQ+" and other classes who people are trying to persecute or remove rights from, not specific named criminals under investigation for actual crimes.

How tone deaf and stupid.
For those who don't know, the original :
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
"First they came …" is the poetic form of a 1946 post-war confessional prose by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). It is about the silence of German intellectuals and certain clergy—including, by his own admission, Niemöller himself—following the Nazis' rise to power and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets, group after group. - Wikipedia
